Corinthians striker and former World Player Of The Year Ronaldo admitted today
that his days in football may be numbered and is contemplating retirement at
the end of 2010.
"I have lived all my life in football and every day the end of my career is
coming closer," the 33-year-old admitted earlier today in a candid interview
with TV Globo.
"But we are going to make the final sacrifice to finish the year on a high,
and after that decide if I'm going to carry on for the year after."
Ronaldo enjoyed a positive start to his Timao career after signing on a free
transfer in March 2009, finishing with 12 goals from 20 games in the
Brasileirao and helping the Sao Paulo side lift the Copa do Brasil.
After falling victim to injury before the World Cup however Ronaldo has now
gone 101 days without playing a game, and in that time his fitness and
physical condition has plummeted to unacceptable levels. The striker however
insisted that he can recover peak form and appear again for Corinthians.
"I fought hard against the weight problems and the pains that the majority of
players suffer at times. They are pains that one overcomes. The problem is
that I was out injured two months and it is natural to put on weight at these
times.
"The ideal weight is only rediscovered through training," the ex-PSV, Barca
and Inter legend concluded.
