Injured Santos talent Ganso today started physiotherapy after undergoing an
operation on Saturday, with a preliminary date for returning to full fitness
slated for February 2011.
Ganso was left stricken after stepping awkwardly on the ball during last
weekend's Peixe clash against Gremio, and further tests showed that the
20-year-old had torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in the left knee.
Doctor's operated on the injured knee on Saturday and declared the procedure
a success, and Globoesporte reports that the midfielder arrived into a
specialist Sao Paulo unit for treating football injuries in order to begin
the long road to recovery.
Santos physiotherapist Avelino Buongermino explained what the first steps on
Ganso's treatment would entail.
"Paulo Henrique (Ganso's) knee showed little sign of inflammation and little
residual bleeding. That is a good indication of the operation's success and
the patient's positive reaction to the surgery. Today we have removed the
surgical dressing and we have started electrical neuromuscular stimulation
work, as well as active exercises involving the ankle and foot," Buongermino
clarified to journalists on Monday afternoon.
It is estimated that Ganso will be mobile once more with the use of crutches
by the end of his second week's rehabilitation. In one month the 20-year-old
will be able to walk unaided, with a return to running on a treadmill
expected in the third month.
