For most of the 1990s and beyond, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz--along with
Braves teammate Greg Maddux--towered over the major league pitching scene.
Although Glavine defected to the Mets three years ago, the pair remain not
just good friends but also two of the most honest interviews in the game.
They certainly were before a recent Braves-Mets game in New York, when I sat
down with Smoltz and Glavine together and talked about the state of pitching,
Smoltz' disenchantment with former pitching coach Leo Mazzone and the fungus
on Greg Maddux's feet.
