Here is a list, in no particular order, of some thoughts I had after rereading all the prospect list interviews. 1. The international free agent signing of pitcher Julio Teheran is as good as getting a first round draft pick. His presence may have made it easier for the Braves to sign Tom Glavine and forfeit their first round draft pick in 2008. The prospect people want to admit that pitcher Cole Rohrbough is a future ace, but they're waiting until he completes a full season. If all goes well, he could end the year one groin pull away from the majors. XD 3. Tommy Hanson is a nice, safe future major league middle of the rotation starter. 4. The 2006 and 2007 drafts may go down as two of the best drafts the Braves have ever had. In addition to the Heywards and the Lockes of those drafts, there is still more talent that has yet to be brought to the attention of many Braves fans. Players like Eric Barrett (another late round draft and follow power lefty), power right-hander Benino Pruneda, outfield speedster Rashod Henry, and catcher Daniel Elorriaga-Matra. Eric Barrett, RHP Benino Pruneda, OF Rashod Henry, C Daniel Elorriaga-Matra 5. The bulk of Atlanta's young hitting talent is located in the outfield -- Jones, Schafer, Anderson, Blanco, Gorkys, Heyward, Johnson, Owings -- this will lead to more trades in the next few years. XD 6. Kala Ka'aihue is not as good as many of us thought he was. As an early favorite of many, it will be hard to watch him continue to struggle. In 2010, we'll have about a dozen prospects playing at a level in which they should be considered candidates for major league promotion. 8. We are very thin in power-hitting prospects. If both Van Pope and Eric Campbell bounce back this year, we'll have a good problem on our hands, but odds are that won't happen for different reasons. We're going to really enjoy watching Jordan Schafer and Jason Heyward play everyday in Atlanta. XD Prospects I'm feeling more confident about: ------------------------------------------ Erik Cordier - It's a crap-shoot if he can bounce back, but if he does that trade goes down as one of Schuerholz' best. Gorkys Hernandez - The more I learn about this kid, the more I like him. Julio Teheran - Might be better than all of our young pitchers. Cole Rohrbough - How can he not be on this list? Jair Jurrjens - Hopefully it's not over-hype, but there are a lot of people who like him. Van Pope - Maybe like Schafer he can figure out how to hit and finally tap into the full potential of all those tools. Prospects I'm not feeling as confident about as I used to: --------------------------------------------------------- Kala Kaaihue - It's a damn shame he hit a wall at Mississippi; this year might be make or break for him. Eric Campbell - A frustrating player because he was a nice guy (both times I've met him) and he does have loads of talent. Brandon Hicks - He's the shortstop who's a throwback to a time when shortstops didn't have to have speed or power. Kris Medlen - I can't believe no one wants to anoint him a future closer. I guess size does matter (he's only 5'10''). Dennis Dixon - He apparently wants to play football now.
