[情報] Ankiel, Hart, Hermida interest Braves
LAS VEGAS -- Lost amid the focus that the Braves are still in search of an
ace is the fact that Braves general manager Frank Wren has come to this
year's Winter Meetings also hoping to find a power-hitting outfielder.
With little interest in any of the outfielders available on the free-agent
market, Wren and his staff are looking at a number of potential trades. Some
of the top names on their radar include Rick Ankiel, Corey Hart and Atlanta
native Jeremy Hermida.
While it doesn't appear that the Braves still have much interest in Ryan
Ludwick, they could certainly have some discussions with the Cardinals about
Ankiel, whose 25 homers this past season were two fewer than the total
compiled by all of Atlanta's outfielders.
With the left-handed hitting Ankiel, the Braves would have an outfielder who
could play both corner positions and occasionally play center, giving the
right-handed hitting Matt Diaz the chance to play left field.
Because Ankiel will be eligible for free agency following the 2009 season,
the Braves likely wouldn't have to provide as much as they would to get Hart,
who will be arbitration-eligible for the next three seasons.
But with Ankiel being a Scott Boras client who might only be around for one
season, there is reason for the Braves to be reluctant about what they might
offer the Cardinals.
In order to get Hart, who has combined to hit .280 with 44 homers and a .495
slugging percentage during the past two years, the Braves know that they
would have to provide the Brewers with an attractive package.
There isn't any guarantee that the Brewers are going to trade Hart. But there
has been some whispers that they might do so to slash some money from their
payroll.
If the Marlins opt to trade Hermida, who has combined to hit 35 homers over
the past two seasons, they likely wouldn't demand the level of return the
Braves would need to provide to get Hart or Ankiel.
Hermida, who is entering his first arbitration-eligible season, grew up in
suburban Atlanta playing high school baseball against Jeff Francoeur and
Brian McCann. Some have wondered if he'd be further motivated if given the
opportunity to play for his hometown Braves.
