'Brewers On Deck' is coming soon
Fun-filled day is set for Jan. 22 at Brookfield Square Mall
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers players and coaches will stage their second annual takeove
r of a suburban Milwaukee mall this month, beginning the buildup to the 2005 re
gular season.
"Miller Lite Brewers On Deck" is a free event for fans on Saturday, Jan. 22, at
Brookfield Square Mall, 95 N. Moorland Rd. Co-sponsored by Fox Sports Net and
the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the event will feature autograph and photo sess
ions with current and former Brewers players, coaches and staff, the first "Tal
king Brewers" radio program of 2005, music from Miller Park organist Dean Rosko
and a children's interactive area provided by Music on the Move. There also wi
ll be clowns, face painting, magicians, music by the Dixie Barons, as well as v
isits by Bernie Brewer and the famous Klement's Racing Sausages.
Mall officials estimated that 11,000 fans attended the inaugural event last yea
r, when it culminated the multicity trek around the state. This year, the "On D
eck" event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, will kick off the weeklong tour
.
In addition to autograph and photo opportunities, Brewers apparel and merchandi
se will be available at the Clubhouse Store in the mall as well as at a kiosk o
perated by SportService. Giveaways throughout the day include a trip to Spring
Training in Arizona.
Back by popular demand is the Brewers Charities Rummage Sale, at which fans can
buy game-worn jerseys, autographed items, club merchandise and other memorabil
ia. Fans will also find a new feature at this year's Rummage Sale, a silent auc
tion for a Miller Park Suite for the home opener on April 11 against the Pirate
s. The winner will receive 14 game tickets and six parking passes for a club le
vel suite to entertain guests on Opening Day. Proceeds from the suite auction s
upport the youth recreation and scholarship activities of Brewers Charities.
Several mall retailers will be offering special discounts.
The Talking Brewers radio show, hosted by Brewers radio announcer Jim Powell an
d heard on WTMJ Radio and the Brewers statewide radio network, will be live fro
m 3-5 p.m. CT and will include fan interaction. Fans will be able to submit que
stions for guests that will include general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ned
Yost.
