Club inks three pitchers and an outfielder; invites Enrique Cruz to Spring Training MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- The Milwaukee Brewers have reached agreement with lefthander Jeff Housman, righthanders Ben Diggins and Mike Jones and outfielder Brad Nelson to one-year contracts and extended an invitation to Spring Training to infielder Enrique Cruz, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager, Doug Melvin. Housman, 23, began the season with Double A Huntsville where he went 5-8 with a 3.13 ERA and one save in 23 appearances. He was promoted to Triple A Indianapolis in August and went 1-1 with an 8.20 ERA in five games, three starts for the Indians. Housman was originally selected by the Brewers in the 33rd round of the 2002 June Free Agent Draft. Diggins, 25, was limited to just four appearances with the Arizona Brewers where he posted a perfect 0.00 ERA in four appearances spanning 6.1 frames. In 2003, he underwent season-ending surgery (reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow). He was placed on the disabled list twice during the season and had surgery on his right shoulder following the season to repair a slap lesion. Jones was the Brewers number one draft pick (12th overall) in the 2001 June Free Agent Draft. Nelson, 22, played the 2004 season with Double A Huntsville where he set career-highs in games played (137), home runs (19), stolen bases (11), and walks (47). He hit .254 for the Stars and drove in 77 runs batted in. Nelson was named to the Southern League All-Star team and won the Southern League's pre-game Home Run Derby. Following the season, he was named to the league's Year-End All-Star Team and was also named a Southern League All-Star by Baseball America. Nelson was selected by Milwaukee in the fourth round of the 2001 June Free Agent draft. Cruz, 23, split the season between Class A High Desert and Double A Huntsville. With High Desert, Cruz batted .283 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 97 games. He hit .188 in 35 games with Huntsville with a pair of homers and five runs batted in. Cruz was acquired by the Brewers from the New York Mets in the Rule 5 draft on December 16, 2002. The Brewers have reached agreement with 27 of the 39 players on the 40-Man roster. Milwaukee now has 16 non-roster invitees to big league spring training in 2005. Joining Cruz, are catchers Pat Borders, Trent Durrington, Mark Johnson, Julio Mosquera and Lou Palmisano, infielders Jeff Cirillo, Matt Erickson, Prince Fielder and Steve Scarborough, outfielder Chris Magruder and pitchers Rigo Beltran, Rick Helling, Tommy Phelps, Chris Saenz and Julio Santana. -- To opengoodbook: 在嗎 ★opengoodbook 有~~~ To opengoodbook: 你會不會在意昨天的事啊?? ._./ ★opengoodbook 我忘了or2 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.21.40
