Therefore, the Milwaukee Brewers have announced the activation of starting pitcher Matt Garza, who will pitch Wednesday against the team that traded him away last year, the Chicago Cubs. MLB.com's Adam McCalvy first announced on Friday that Garza would make that Wednesday start. Now, NBC Sports Rotoworld has announced that the Brewers made the move official Monday morning. Because of the expansion, no one needs to leave the active roster to make room for the right-hander. In fact, McCalvy also reported that the Brewers have called up five other players to add to that roster. Garza went on the disabled on August 4 with a strained left rib cage. He pitched six innings the night before, allowing only one hit and no runs. On the season, Garza is 7-7 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He has a 2.58 ERA in his last 10 starts. The Brewers enter play on September 1 tied for first with the St. Louis Cardinals in the N.L. Central. Without Garza for most of the month, the Brewers were 23rd in the Majors in August ERA (4.09), leading to a 13-14 record and allowing St. Louis to pick up two games in the standings to force the tie.
