KATHMANDU, Nepal - Janette Husarova made the most of some time off from the
Sony Ericsson WTA Tour recently, spending a month in Nepal, trekking the
Himalayas. Husarova, who hasn't played since the US Open but is one of the
most accomplished doubles players around and plans on returning to the
circuit in the spring, had been hoping to make the adventure for a long time.
"I had wanted to do this for 15 years but could never find the time because
of tennis. I saw that Marat Safin recently did this," the 35-year-old said.
"I didn't know anyone else who wanted to undertake this adventure, so I went
with three others who were in the same position. The four of us all had the
same dream."
A month against one of the world's most breathtaking backdrops was a stark
contrast to the busy life of a travelling tennis star.
"I had access to phone and internet there, but I didn't want to use them. To
wake up in such an environment, surrounded by mountains... I can't describe
how amazing it was. Now I want to try the Andes in South America!"
Husarova has also been keeping very busy as Tournament Director for an ITF
Women's Circuit event in Piestany, in her native Slovakia. Held at the HSC
Club, its name comes from her initials - the JH Open. It is a $10,000 event.
Husarova's best results have come in doubles, winning 24 titles on the Tour
and making it to No.3 in the world in that discipline. The biggest of those
24 titles came at the Sony Ericsson Championships in 2002 (just a few months
before reaching that career-high, which she did in April 2003). Though she
has no singles titles on the Tour she has been ranked as high as No.31, and
her best Grand Slam result was the fourth round of the 2002 Australian Open.
爬了喜馬拉雅山,而且又辦了個10K的小比賽,雖然是半退休狀態,Husarova明年春天
應該仍會繼續參加比賽。
