Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 23, the NBA announced today. Anthony, who is fourth in the NBA in scoring at 25.4 ppg, averaged 33.7 ppg, 13.3 rpg and 1.7 apg in three games last week as the Nuggets went 2-1. For the week, he posted three-consecutive double-doubles and scored 30+ points in each game. He posted a season-high 37 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a double-overtime win over Houston on Dec. 20. He had 34 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Portland on Dec. 21 and posted 30 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Sacramento on Dec. 23. Anthony has now garnered seven Player of the Week honors in his four-plus seasons in the NBA – tying Alex English’s team record of seven. Anthony received the award twice during his rookie season (weeks ending March 14 and April 11, 2004), once during the 2005-06 season for the week ending March 19, and three times last season (weeks ending Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Feb. 11).
