The Cagliari forward, who will celebrate his 39th birthday next week, has decided to quit following a stunning career. "The season ended a few weeks ago but I needed a little time to reflect," explained the No 10. "It wasn't a simple decision to make but I felt the need to dedicate myself to the things which I have overlooked in these years." Zola will be remembered as one of football's greatest ever players but also one of the nicest and most respected. He started his career with Nuorese and Torres before moving to Napoli, where he worked in the shadow of Diego Armando Maradona. He left the Stadio San Paolo for Parma in 1993 before opting for a Chelsea switch in November 1996. Zola developed into a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, earning himself the nickname ‘Magic Box’ during seven wonderful years in London.
