Udinese ace Vincenzo Iaquinta has insisted he was always confident
of returning to the international stage.
Iaquinta was included in the Italy squad for the first time
since World Cup glory last night and he's eager to repay
boss Roberto Donadoni for the opportunity.
Iaquinta在世界盃後首次回到大名單，他渴望能回報 Donadoni的賞識。
“I was always hopeful that I would be back here,”
stated the Bianconeri attacker on Monday evening.

“I knew that Donadoni hadn't ruled me out of contention and
I wasn't included by him before because I was clearly struggling
for fitness and form.

“He told me of his intentions and asked me to work hard in training.
It is a great honour for me to be part of the Azzurri family.”

Iaquinta played a role in the nation's World Cup triumph in Germany
and he's eager for more victories at club and international level.
“I hope to play and it is my objective to reach the
European Championship Finals,” continued the former Pescara man.

“We're not content with just winning the World Cup.
「只贏個世界盃冠軍是不能滿足我們的。」
“I'm still young and I want to continue to do well firstly
for Udinese and then in the blue jersey of Italy.”

Iaquinta has been included in the squad for the ties against
Ukraine and Georgia, ahead of Milan's Alberto Gilardino
who has been surprisingly omitted.
Italy need six points from six after drawing with Lithuania and
comprehensively being beaten 3-1 by France in their first two
qualifying ties last month.

Grosso injury concerns Italy

Inter's Fabio Grosso is unlikely to be available
for Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier between Italy and Ukraine.
The World Cup hero suffered a muscle problem in the 1-1 draw
with Cagliari on Sunday and remains a major doubt
for Roberto Donadoni's plans.

“As you all saw, Grosso came off in the second half of his game
on Sunday with a muscle complaint in his left thigh,”
stated Azzurri chief medic Andrea Ferretti.

Grosso在週日比賽的下半因為左大腿肌肉不適而退場。」
“We will evaluate his condition over the next 24 hours
and see how the situation develops,” he continued.

“We will carry out some tests even if the player says he feels fine.
We'll make a decision on Tuesday.”

Although Grosso did train on Monday afternoon, he may not be fit enough
to play until the second tie against Georgia in 10 days time.

“Seeing as this is a double header, our aim is to get him ready
for at least the second game,” concluded Ferretti.

The former Palermo player, a ￡4.5m summer buy, will probably see
Barca's Gianluca Zambrotta switched from right-back to left-back.

he will be replaced seeing as Fiorentina's Manuel Pasqual is also
in the 25-man squad – 19 of whom were in the World Cup party.
