The defender captained the Azzurri to glory in Berlin before walking out on Juventus in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal, but he hasn't turned his back on Italian football. “At the age of 33 I didn't feel like ending my career in Serie B with a heavy points penalty. I couldn't say no to that offer from Real Madrid,” he told Max magazine.
