Genoa defender Salvatore Bocchetti made his senior international debut
for Italy on Saturday night as the Nazionale booked their place at next
summer’s World Cup finals with a dramatic 2-2 draw away in Ireland.

The 22-year-old replaced Fabio Grosso 15 minutes from time and was all
smiles as he landed back in the peninsula on Sunday.

“It is an immense satisfaction to have got here, although I have yet to
accomplish anything,” he said to La Gazzetta del Lunedi.

Bocchetti shot to fame last season after joining Genoa from Serie B side
Frosinone and is now being tipped to follow in the footsteps of Italy
captain Fabio Cannavaro.
