The Green Laser that has taken Serie A by storm By: Francesco | March 25th, 2010 http://tinyurl.com/yet2432 If you’ve been watching Serie A this season, you may have noticed it by now. In many games across the peninsula, especially games at night, the mysterious green laser beam has been shot at various players and managers. The first appearance of the green laser is pictured, when during a Bari-Juventus game at the Stadio San Nicola, Diego stepped up to take a penalty kick and the laser was dancing on his face. He missed that penalty. The laser has been spotted at many games since then, in fact I saw it tonight on Camoranesi’s face during Napoli-Juventus and it recently hit Mourinho during the Palermo-Inter game this past weekend. After Dida complained about being distracted by a laser in a game at the San Paolo vs. Napoli, the National Sporting Committee of Italy decided that stewards at the stadium could now fine anyone carrying a laser into the stadium 500 euro or anyone using one during the game could be hit with the same fine. It obviously hasn’t worked out. It reaches player’s faces and jerseys all the way from the stands, and in the case of most stadiums that’s pretty far since it has to also get by the running track. The clubs are also fined now too. After the Roma-Lazio derby, Lazio was fined 40,000 euro for a fan using a laser. It’s hard that the laser will go away. I have to say, it is amusing sometimes, but I understand it can be a distraction to the players. Let’s not forget, this is Italy we’re talking about. Do you think stewards at stadium entrances are going to check each person for a laser? Nope. And that’s exactly what Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said in an interview after a game with Genoa in January.
