Football Italia http://www.football-italia.net/sep21w.html Strike off, but Week 18 moved The Players’ Association suspended the strike for this weekend, but also got a deal to extend the winter break, moving Week 18 forward. Negotiations between the Italian Players’ Association (AIC) and the Lega Serie A (a union of all the top flight clubs) broke the impasse this afternoon. The proposed strike for September 25 and 26 has been called off, so those games will go ahead as planned. However, the Lega also announced a surprise addition to the bargaining table. The AIC has managed to extend the Christmas break, which was originally set to end on Thursday January 6. Instead, that Week 18 round will now be played before the break, on Wednesday December 22. It means the players will get back to work for Week 19 on January 9, 2011. The strike was in protest at changes to the collective bargaining contract between clubs and players. These negotiations have found an agreement on six of the eight issues, while the new deadline is November 30. “We will keep on talking until November 30 as long as FIGC President Giancarlo Abete (pictured) acts as guarantor over the two issues we still have not agreed on: players frozen out of the squad and obligatory transfers, ” said AIC President Sergio Campana.
