Veteran striker Massimo Maccarone has returned to newly-promoted Empoli
after ending his Sampdoria contract.
The forward, who turns 35 in September, terminated his contract with Samp
by mutual consent today and immediately penned a new two-season deal with
Empoli.
It is a return to his roots, as Maccarone shot to fame at Empoli from 2002
to January 2005, when sold to Middlesbrough for €12m.
He had spells at Parma, Siena, Palermo and Sampdoria, but spent last season
on loan with Empoli.
His 15 Serie B goals and 12 assists helped the Tuscans to secure promotion
into the top flight and now his partnership with Francesco Tavano can be
made permanent.
