Jocketty confirmed on Wednesday that infielder Junior Spivey has been
suspended by the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds. Spivey reportedly ignored
a sign from manager Danny Sheaffer, and a disagreement ensued.
"There was a misunderstanding or miscommunication between him and Sheaffer
and they talked about suspending him for a couple of days," Jocketty said. "
They asked me about it and told me the situation, and I said that sounds like
the appropriate punishment."
It's been the worst year of Spivey's career. Expected to be the Cardinals'
starting second baseman, he endured a brutal spring and was sent to the Minors.
He's hit .173 at Memphis with 47 strikeouts in 208 at-bats.
