LOUIS -- Chris Carpenter threw a baseball for the first time in two weeks on Tuesday, playing long toss at up to 120 feet with Cardinals bullpen catcher Jeff Murphy. Carpenter, recuperating from swelling in his right elbow caused by bone spurs, began a throwing program that he hopes will have him pitching off a mound on Saturday.
