Each element of the team has looked good at some point in the first half of the 2007 season, but they've never been all clicking at once. In April, the club's pitching looked surprisingly strong, but St. Louis fielded the most punchless offense in the National League. By the time May was done, the bats had awakened -- and the starting pitching was flagging. Then after a run of trouble for the starters, the bullpen began to show some cracks from overuse. 季初投手戰力看來似乎還挺堅強的，但打線就是軟趴趴。一直到了五月底打線有所甦醒了，結果換先發投手群搞笑，最後連帶影響了原本表現稱職的牛棚。 That means that fans have two options for looking at this team. The pessimists can see a team with no single great asset to hang its hat on. An optimist can look at the various flashes, and figure that the ability exists in every unit on the roster. The truth, of course, is likely somewhere in between. If things break right, the Cardinals aren't out of it. But they have some serious digging to do if they hope to make their fourth straight postseason appearance. Club MVP: It's the same guy as always, and it's an even easier call than usual. Albert Pujols leads the team in on-base percentage, total bases, RBIs, hits, runs and doubles, and is tied for the lead in home runs with Chris Duncan. The second half starts with a three-city eastern road trip, but the really critical stretch comes right after. From July 24-29, the Cardinals have three games against the Cubs and four against the Brewers, the two teams they're chasing in the NL Central.
