Bats: Right Throws: Right Report Date(s): 03/13 - 03/15/08 Game(s): Cal Poly Focus Area Comments Hitting Ability: Off to a bad start, Curtis hasn't been able to get his bat head out in front. Most of the balls he has hit have been to the right side. He's a better hitter than he's shown. Power: He has the opportunity to be a 10-15 homer guy, with most of his power to the pull side. He's more of a line-drive, gap-to-gap hitter. Running Speed: He's a below-average runner, who's very slow out of the box. Base running: His speed doesn't help, but he is better underway than right out of the box. Arm Strength: He's got a below-average arm at third, which may necessitate a move defensively. Fielding: His hands are decent and catches what he can get to. Range: His range would be OK at second. It's not a plus, but he can get to balls. Physical Description: Curtis is strong, lean, muscular and athletic. He's well put together, a physically mature guy who doesn't offer much projection. Medical Update: Healthy. Strengths: When he's right, he's a good hittability guy, with the ability to hit line drives and the occasional homer. Weaknesses: He doesn't have the skills, or power, to stay at third; Season-long slump has him looking bad at the plate. Summary: After an All-Star campaign in the Cape League last summer, there were some high expectations for Curtis. He hasn't lived up to them, struggling at the plate to hit the ball with the same authority he has in the past. He doesn't have the arm to stay at third and would profile better at second at the next level.
