[情報] Cards may lose Mather for season

PHOENIX -- The Cardinals may have to play the rest of the season without
outfielder Joe Mather.
In Monday afternoon's series opener against the D-backs at Chase Field,
Mather tried to check his swing on a high fastball in the third inning but
ended up with what the Cardinals called a sprained left wrist.
Both manager Tony La Russa and Mather were concerned the injury could end
Mather's season. Mather will see a hand specialist on Tuesday to determine
his diagnosis.
"I definitely felt discomfort," Mather said. "I didn't know exactly what it
was. I thought it might go away. I couldn't end up being able to squeeze the
bat afterward."
The Cardinals recalled Mather from Triple-A Memphis on July 22 to replace the
injured Chris Duncan. He has hit .241 with eight homers and 18 RBIs,
including a homer on Monday, in a platoon outfield role.
"The hand is still pretty sore. I don't think anyone knows quite yet what it
is," Mather said. "There's only a month left in the season, so if it's
something that's going to take a couple weeks, that's probably going to be
the end of my season, unfortunately. Hopefully, it's not as bad as it looks."
