[情報] Springer shares thoughts on Cardinals young pitchers

不貼全文了,貼春仔對幾名年輕投手的看法
Of particular interest to him, of course, are young relievers Chris Perez and
Jason Motte, both closer candidates of the near, or very near, future, whom
Springer mentored last season after they had joined the club.
Springer thinks either can perform the ninth-inning role, that is if they
make certain adjustments that Springer and others had suggested.
"They both knew what they had to work on when they went home for the
offseason," Springer said. "I don't know how much they worked on it or not."
Specifically, Springer said Motte needed more work on his slider.
"Motte's got a little more late zip (than Perez) on his fastball. He
short-arms the ball and he hides the ball better, where hitters can't pick it
up, so he can probably get away with a little less breaking ball," Springer
said.
"Perez throws hard, too, but he's got a better breaking ball. But he needs to
learn how to throw it out from the same slot as the fastball. He's got two
different arm slots and hitters can pick that up."
..........
"I'm pulling for the young guys. If (Josh) Kinney is healthy, he's a guy who
can pick up a big load. And so can Mac (Kyle McClellan), if he can mentally
last the whole season. That's the longest season he's ever pitched.
