The return of Larry Hughes might be close, but it won’t come Wednesday.
Hughes is expected to miss his seventh straight game Wednesday when the
Cavaliers host the New York Knicks at The Q.
To further muddle matters, Hughes’ replacement in the starting lineup,
rookie Shannon Brown, left practice Monday to have an in-grown toenail
removed. Brown started the first game of his NBA career Saturday. The
procedure was successful and Brown is listed as probable against the Knicks.
Whether he will start again has yet to be determined.
All eyes, however, are trained on Hughes and his balky right ankle. Since
scrambling for a loose ball and suffering the injury in a game back on
Nov. 15 against the Portland Trailblazers, the Cavaliers have sorely
missed Hughes’ presence in the lineup.
At the time, Hughes was averaging 13.8 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and
3.1 assists this season.
