How hard is that in London? It’s hard because it is very important that we get a facility where the players do not have to drive an hour, an hour-and-a-half to get to. Most of them live in Central London or Barnes; we’d like to find a facility that is 20 minutes or half-an-hour away. It’s London, it’s difficult to find these kinds of areas and it’s also difficult to get planning permission in theses areas, which is fair enough. We’ve got three, maybe four different things going on in tandem, and hopefully one of them will reach fruition and we will be able to tell you exactly what we are doing. It’s probably the most important football related project that we are working on. Is there a time? Is there an agenda? As soon as possible, I mean that is the agenda. Unfortunately, if you start from scratch it’s probably two or three years away, so it would be helpful if we could find something where we could renovate into a proper facility. In the mean time it’s upgrading Harlington and using what we can use at Cobham? Correct. Let’s look at what Peter Kenyon is going to try and achieve, you touched on that. How will the work of Chelsea change worldwide? Peter, besides being a football man, is a marketing man. And he is going to look at all the TV rights, all those kind of things, the video, and the web, whatever. And also figuring out a way to make this brand a profitable brand around the globe. He has some ideas and we have only talked to him briefly about them. But he is going to need some time to understand what is going on around here generally and then to build a strategy around that for the future. I’m sure you will be interviewing him regularly and he’ll be able to give progress on what those plans are. But there is not a business plan right now that exists, that is something that Peter will be doing in his first few weeks here. Is this perhaps the most crucial period now since Roman has taken over because it is the beginning of the future? To a certain extent, yes. Peter coming on board was announced in August, beginning of September. We would have hoped that he would’ve come on board much more promptly than he has but that was delayed by virtue of his contractual restrictions with Manchester United and our ability to strike a deal with Manchester United as to when Peter could come on board. And February 1st, was the day, so in a certain sense over the last couple of months with respect to the non-football activities, we have been treading water. So now Peter is here and as Peter would say: “It’s the new Chelsea, let’s move forward.” There has been a lot of publicity about what the new reign of Chelsea expects us to achieve this season. What do you expect us to achieve? As a fan, I would like to win something. As chairman it is really not for me to say but we have our fingers crossed. Are you enjoying it? Are you enjoying the football? Oh yes it is great. I think what is interesting for me personally is to see football from the inside. It is really quite interesting; there are some really wonderful people involved in the game. I have had a chance to spend a lot of time with Dave Richards and other Premier League officials and they really know what they are doing. I think they have a good approach. They are very interested in doing charitable things and things for the community. So are we by the way, that is going to be an important part of moving forward for Chelsea, helping the community. And having our players contribute to the community. Yes it has been very, very interesting and I’ve really enjoyed it. And everybody has seen how much Roman Abramovich has enjoyed the football and the whole of Chelsea. How much do you feel he’s enjoyed it and how long a ride is he set for? Well he really enjoys it. There is no doubt about it; you can see the smile on his face, at least on winning days. And he spends a lot of time talking to us about it. It’s not like he’s here for Saturday afternoon and then he doesn’t think about it. He thinks about it a lot. He is very much involved in discussions with Claudio and players and things like that. So he is really involved and he is learning too. He’s learning a lot about football and I think he enjoys that. Where would you like to see Chelsea in three years time? Football team, definitely at the top of the League. And I think that is achievable. One of the issues in the Premier League is, you sort of have three or four teams at the top and then you have the rest of the pack. And in a certain sense that becomes an issue as to whether that is good for the Premier League or good for football. So what we would like to see is 20 vibrant teams all competing but with Chelsea at or near the top. And European? Same. Really would like to see us advance in the Champions League. Personally I love the European games. They are great fun. I went to Zilina, I went to Lazio and I am definitely going to go to Stuttgart. I think there is such an excitement home and away with the European games that as a fan it is fantastic. In terms of just working day to day here in Chelsea Football Club, in Chelsea Village, how much will the processes now change for the people working here? I don’t think they will change particularly except that Chelsea now and Chelsea a year ago is a different financial animal. I mean we are in a good financial position and we can invest to the future. A year ago it was difficult to think too much about the future because the company did not have the financial well being that the company has now. Now I think a lot of our people can be looking towards the future and look at how they might change things for the better. So in that sense I think it is going to be a much more exciting environment for the people that work at Chelsea Village and Chelsea Football Club.
