Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon insists that billionaire backer
Roman Abramovich is at the club for the long haul.
The Russian tycoon has spent well over ￡100 million on players since
taking over at The Blues as he attempts to bring silverware to Stamford
Bridge.
However, there have been suggestions that Abramovich could turn his
back on the club if he does not get instant reward for his huge outlay.
That would leave Chelsea in a precarious financial situation given the
amount of big-earners now on their books, but Kenyon insists such talk is
wide of the mark and revealed the Russian is fully committed to the club.
"What sets Roman apart is that most people spend the money acquiring a
club but very few people acquire a club and then spend the same again in
improving what is on the field," Kenyon told the Daily Telegraph.
"You don't do that unless you are a) committed to the long term and
b) emotional about the product.
"Roman wants exciting, good football. It is not just a case of winning
it (the championship) with more draws than anyone else or fewer goals.
"He does understand from a real fans' perspective that you all want to
romance about the fifth goal that got knocked in from 30 yards."
