Zenden finally agreed a contract with Middlesbrough where he was on loan last season. He played 59 matches for us, starting 30 and being a substitute in 29, and scoring four goals, most memorably on his debut against Newcastle and a half-volley against Manchester United. He arrived in 2001 for ￡7.5m from Barcelona. Neil Sullivan arrived late last August from Tottenham on a free transfer, and played eight games, seven starting and one substitute appearance, keeping four clean sheets. He has gone to Leeds United where he will contest the goalkeeper’s shirt with youngster Scott Carson who impressed at Stamford Bridge on the last day of last season.
