Chelsea to have new sponsor

Chelsea today announced it will not be renewing its shirt sponsorship deal with
Emirates Airlines when it expires at the end of the season. The club and the
Dubai based airline have been in partnership for the past five seasons. Chelsea
will now begin the search for a suitable replacement sponsor.
Commenting on the decision, Chelsea’s Business Affairs Director, Paul Smith,
said:
“Emirates has been an excellent sponsor for us over the past five seasons. The
relationship has reinforced the identity of the club while Chelsea has also
been an excellent showcase for the sponsorship.
“Research shows that Emirates have benefited significantly in image terms from
the association and the worldwide brand coverage for Emirates, over the last 18
months in particular, has been exceptional with Chelsea being in the spotlight
so much.
“Although we regard Emirates highly, we believe the best type of sponsor for
Chelsea, as the club embarks on a new global era, is a consumer brand. Ideally
it will be an active marketing partner with similar strategic ambitions for the
UK, North America and Asia, regions where we anticipate major opportunities for
extensive growth in the Chelsea fanbase.”
