Eliminations begin as quest to find star continues tonight

The fourth programme of the talent search show series Football Icon
is being broadcast on Sky One at 7pm.
After a nationwide search involving thousands of young hopefuls, and
a selection weekend at Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, the 12
selected players arrived last week to join the Premiership Champions on a
six-week trial.
Now they come to the end of their first fortnight as trialists and
Youth Academy manager Neil Bath makes his first tough decision - releasing
the lads he doesn’t think are up to scratch. One or more of the boys will
be leaving at the end of tonight’s show.
After ten days of double training sessions, and a 4-1 triumph over a
youth team from Sutton United, this week the lads face a much stiffer
challenge - a match against a youth side from Brighton and Hove Albion.
To add to the pressure, the boys know it’s their final chance to impress
before Neil makes his decisions on who stays and who is leaving.
Back at the Football Icon house, the youngest of the trialists,
centre-back Carl Richardson, celebrates his 17th birthday. The lads enjoy
a day off and head for the go-karting track, but back at the Football Icon
house trouble is brewing.
Over the course of the series, the group will gradually be whittled
down, until finally Jose Mourinho will anoint the Special One: the
nation’s next football icon. The winner will win a professional contract
for the rest of the 2005-6 season.
