Essien waits on African Nations Cup

Jose Mourinho has indicated that should Michael Essien's injury
require treatment over the next few weeks, he will stay at Chelsea to
complete it. That may rule out his chances of competing in the African Cup
of Nations for Ghana. He also revealed that he has allowed Geremi to join
up with Cameroon early. Talking after the victory at West Ham yesterday,
Monday, he told Chelsea TV of his schedule for Chelsea's African players.

“Geremi goes today. I have a great relation with Arturo, his manager
is Portuguese. Geri deserves to go now. They didn't qualify for the World
Cup. The African Cup is very important for him. I could keep him for the
Huddersfield game but I'm going to play Glen Johnson and Paulo, so I don't
need him. I let him go today.

“Drogba goes after Huddersfield. They don't let him stay, but I don't
let him go before he has to go, so he goes on the 7th after the
Huddersfield game.

“And Essien I think is not going. To do treatment is better to stay
with Chelsea. He would be going for nothing.”Essien was carried off at
West Ham in the 12th minute after a challenge by Nigel Reo-Coker. He had a
scan on his injured ankle today, and will probably require further
scanning in the near future when swelling has reduced.
