Reserve player Smith earns new deal

Chelsea reserve team squad member Jimmy Smith has signed an extended
professional contract. Smith, who turns 19 on Saturday, was midway through
an initial professional contract. The new deal will take him to 2005.

An attacking midfielder, he is joint top scorer in the reserve team
this season with four goals, despite missing two months of the season with
a broken collar bone, suffered on England Under 19 duty.
Chelsea Academy manager Neil Bath said of the youngster from east
London after the contract was signed:ꄠ“Jimmy has done particularly well
and it was decided from Jose [Mourinho] down that it was the moment to
extend his contract. He is quite a late developer, technically very good,
but when he has gone up to train with the first team he has obviously done
well enough for Jose to want a contract extension.”
Smith celebrated putting pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon by scoring
the winner against Fulham Reserves on Wednesday evening.
