By the time the first team was going in for half-time 3-0 up against
Everton, the reserves had completed a 0-0 draw at home to Watford Reserves
at the Recreation Ground, Aldershot.
It was the new, young Chelsea Reserves. Older players were missing:
Steven Watt is now a Swansea player, Anthony Grant, Joe Keenan and Filipe
Morais are all on loan. Jonas Elmer was away on international duty with
Switzerland.
The team took time to settle but Watford never really threatened in
the first-half. Chelsea edged the second-half, but likewise never really
threatened.
Coach Mick McGiven said: “There were good full debuts from Ryan
Bertrand and Scott Sinclair, with Jack Cork also impressing.” The three
first year trainees have stepped up from the youth team as they progress
through the ranks.
