England Under 19s midfielder Jimmy Smith headed the winner from an inswinging corner after just five minutes. Coach Brendan Rodgers said: “We were outstanding in the first-half. The game got a little bit tight in the second-half but I was delighted overall. Our performance had quality. Sam Hutchinson has moved into centre-half (he has played full-back most of the season) and was determined and reliable. And Jimmy Smith gave us confidence.” Scott Sinclair, ever present until two games ago, has started missing matches because of his increasing involvement in the reserves.
