Big names to play in Reserves
Monday, Feb 13, 2006
Chelsea Reserves tonight give run-outs to several first team squad
players including Portuguese international pair Paulo Ferreira and Maniche.
The game is at home to Arsenal and can be seen live on Chelsea TV.
Carlton Cole and Lassana Diarra will also play at Aldershot Town's
Recreation Ground in the most experienced reserve line-up since Watford
were beaten 4-0 away back in September.
The game completes Ferreira's recovery from a thigh strain that has
kept him out of the last three first team games. Youth team top scorer
Scott Sinclair starts his second reserve game having been handed his full
debut at this level in the 0-0 draw at home to Watford last Wednesday.
This fixture is traditionally the biggest in the reserve calendar
with crowds of over 4,000 not unknown at Aldershot.
Arsenal are currently second the Barclays Premiership Reserve League
South, two points behind leaders Spurs. They have a good away record with
seven wins and two defeats from their nine games. Tonight the visitors
feature former Derby and Sunderland keeper Mart Poom in their line-up. In
attack they will field the second and third highest scorers in the
southern section, Arturo Lupoli and Nicklas Bendter, who have 16 and 10
goals respectively.
A win tonight could send Chelsea, currently in seventh place, into
the top five. The away game against Arsenal back in October saw two young
sides draw 0-0.
