Terry, Lampard and Cole in contention for PFA accolade

Half the names announced for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award are
from Chelsea.
John Terry, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole are all in the running for the honour
which is voted for by the professionals themselves.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool provide one player each to the list
in the shape of Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard.
It is the second season in a row Chelsea have taken half the nominations and
John Terry is looking to retain the award, having become Chelsea’s first
winner last season and the first defender to win it since Paul McGrath back
in 1993. The award began in 1974.
Frank Lampard came second both last season and in 2004. Other Chelsea players
to have been shortlisted in the past are Petr Cech, Gianfranco Zola twice,
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Ruud Gullit.
This year’s recipient will be named on Sunday 23rd April.
