http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?hlid=404437 Chelsea voted one of UK's top brands Thursday, Jul 20, 2006 Chelsea Football Club has been selected as one of the country's top brands for the first time. The vote was conducted by the Superbrands organisation, which is the industry's leading independent panel of branding experts. Chelsea FC are also the first football team to feature in the Superbrands book which selects the strongest brands from among their top 500 in the United Kingdom. Chelsea was selected following our unprecedented success in the last two years with two Premiership titles, record sponsorship deals with adidas and Samsung, and a growth in fan base in the UK alone from 1m to 4m in just three years. Amongst the other top brands featured are Microsoft, Mercedes and British Airways. The vote is conducted by the Superbrands Expert Council, and for the first time this year also by consumers polled by the research agency YouGov. Superbrands produces a glossy, coffee table style book that devotes a double page spread to Chelsea. This covers the club's vision and brand values, recent achievements and our corporate social responsibility strategy such as the club's national charity partner CLIC Sargent Chelsea Chief Executive Peter Kenyon said: “This award is great news for Chelsea. Not only is it an honour for us to be in the company of some of the most established brands in the world, but it is a testament to the hard work of all the Chelsea staff that we have got to this position so quickly. “We believe we can become a global brand through sustained success on the pitch backed up by commercial success off it, and everyone has a part to play in that.” The official definition of a “Superbrand”, considered by both the Expert Council and the consumers when voting is: “A Superbrand has established the finest reputation in its field and offers consumers emotional and tangible advantages over other brands, which (consciously or sub-consciously) consumers want and recognize.” http://www.chelseafc.com/Images/-STOCK/badge1.gif
