Terry is one of five Barclays Premier League stars to be named in the side, which is voted for by over 50,000 professional footballers from across the globe. This is the first time the FIFA FIFPro World XI, voted for by professional footballers, has been announced at the FIFA World Player of the Year Awards, which is voted for by managers and captains of each national side. Lionel Messi won the World Player of the Year Award while Terry was named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI, alongside Barclays Premier League stars Steven Gerrard, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Fernando Torres. 'I am very proud and honoured to be in the side,' explained Terry. 'It is a great achievement so I am delighted and I will continue to hopefully play consistently well.' As captain of England, as well as voting in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI, Terry also had a say in the winner of FIFA World Player of the Year. 'For me, my vote went to Messi, I thought he was fantastic last year, he was the one who really stood out for me. He has been the most difficult opponent for me. Over the last couple of seasons he has been fantastic. 'A few years ago [Cristiano] Ronaldo was the best, but he has had a few injuries and over the past two years Messi has been the best.' Terry was the only Chelsea name in the final team, although the Premier League has the second highest number of players to Spain's La Liga. 'England had five in there, so it is still good for us, but if you look at Messi, Ronaldo and Kaka, they are the players who are probably the best in the world at the moment.
