https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/04/ under-18s-report--chelsea-v-blackburn.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 2 Blackburn 1 Sat 22 Apr 2017 Ten-man Chelsea came from behind to win at Cobham as they returned to the top of the league table. Despite a one-sided first half, it was Bradley Lynch who put Blackburn in front early after the restart and the Blues were then reduced to 10 men as Tariq Lamptey saw red for handball on the line. However, Rovers missed the spot-kick and the hosts turned the game around, Martell Taylor-Crossdale netting his 20th of the season and Callum Hudson-Odoi forcing a late own goal. Morris made four changes from the side that were beaten at Manchester City in their last league outing as Marcin Bulka, Conor Gallagher, Harvey St Clair and Lamptey came into the team, the latter an Under-16 making his first youth team start. He was one of two schoolboys starting for the Blues, Hudson-Odoi joining Harvey St Clair and Taylor-Crossdale in an attacking trio. Lamptey lined up at right wing-back with Juan Castillo on the opposite wing flanking an unchanged back three of Reece James, Joseph Colley and Marc Guehi. Bulka was between the sticks while Conor Gallagher partnered captain Luke McCormick in midfield. It took just a few minutes for the hosts to threaten as they dominated much of the early play. Castillo's advances down the left have been a regular feature in recent weeks and the Dutchman escaped the attention of Andrew Jackson, the Rovers right-back, before supplying a low ball into the box that narrowly avoided the central run of Taylor-Crossdale. Guehi was presented with a wonderful opportunity to open the scoring with just five minutes on the clock as he found himself unmarked from a left-sided corner but the centre-back's header flashed wide when he ought to have tested Matthew Campbell. The Blues continued to control the game and Hudson-Odoi went within inches of netting his eighth of the campaign. Taylor-Crossdale turned over possession and fed the forward, who opened up his body and curled a shot towards the right corner that went a whisker wide. The 16-year-old was guilty of handing the visitors another let-off just before the half-hour mark as Taylor-Crossdale once again turned provider with a cross from the right. Hudson-Odoi was on the end of it at the back post but got underneath his header and the ball flew harmlessly over the bar. It was a first period of one-way traffic but Morris's men were growing frustrated with their inability to find a deserved goal. Gallagher forced a good diving save from Campbell and Guehi hit the bar from the following corner, his looping effort dropping down on to the top of the goal frame and away to safety. The woodwork was rattling again before the break but this time it was Blackburn's turn to threaten as Lynch led a quick counter-attack and took aim from distance, beating Bulka but not the crossbar. Lamptey, Hudson-Odoi and Taylor-Crossdale forced saves of varying difficulty from Bulka's opposite number before half-time, the latter continuing the pursuit of his 20th goal of the season, while the Blues racked up double figures on the corner count to no avail. Rovers restarted brightly and took the lead within 10 minutes. John Buckley had fired a warning with a low free-kick held by Bulka but the Blues keeper was beaten moments later as Lynch moved away from Colley and clipped an expert finish over the onrushing Polish teenager. Unbeaten at home in two years, the goal sparked the Blues into life and they restored parity swiftly. Charlie Brown had replaced St Clair at the break and it was his strike from the latest corner that was diverted in by Taylor-Crossdale from close range. Morris would have expected his players to kick on from that moment but their efforts at collecting all three points were severely damaged midway through the half when they were reduced to 10 men. Lamptey was the one sent for an early visit to the changing room, the referee brandishing a red card for handball on the line. It looked a close call but Rovers had the chance to compound the damage from 12 yards. Callum Wright stepped up but fired against the post and Chelsea were still in the game. Morris sacrificed a man in midfield in order to retain the team's shape as Kyle Jameson joined the back three from the bench and Hudson-Odoi filled in at right wing-back. Wright was presented with a good chance to make amends as he raced clear in behind but his wayward finish capped a forgettable few minutes for him. The visitors were looking for a victory that would draw them level with the Blues in the merit round top tier and they continued to utilise their numerical advantage to carve out opportunities. Callum Hendry dragged a shot wide after a cutback from substitute Jordan O'Brien before Taylor-Crossdale headed narrowly over from Tariq Uwakwe's corner. With nine minutes of the encounter remaining, we took the lead for the first time and Hudson-Odoi, so impressive in the Youth Cup earlier in the week in Manchester, took centre stage to make the key difference. Upgrading through the gears down the right wing, he beat Jack Evans for pace and power before delivering a wicked cross into the box that was headed beyond his own keeper by Ben Blackburn. Morris's men knew they would move to the top of the league with a win and readjusted to a 4-4-1 in order to see out the final stages. Hendry brought a comfortable save from Bulka but it was the home side threatening to score more goals late on. Brown spurned two near-post chances and headed over but it mattered little as the final whistle sounded. Three wins from our final three games will see us crowned national champions. Our youngsters return to action in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final at Stamford Bridge next week. Tied 1-1 following the first leg in Manchester, City are our opponents once again as we look to lift the trophy for a fourth year running. It's a 7.45pm kick-off in SW6 on Tuesday evening.
