U18南區聯賽第11輪 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/11/ under-18s-report--brighton-v-chelsea.html Under-18s report: Brighton 1 Chelsea 3 Fri 4 Nov 2016 Our youth team went top of the Under-18 Premier League south section this evening (Friday) with their first away win of the season. Under the lights at the Brighton training ground, Martell Taylor-Crossdale fired us in front before Dan Cashman's leveller moments before the break. However, second-half goals from Richard Nartey and Callum Hudson-Odoi handed victory to Jody Morris's youngsters on a chilly south coast evening. They move a point ahead of West Ham in the table, with the Hammers facing third-placed Arsenal tomorrow. Morris made three changes to the side that beat Leicester City last weekend, with goalkeeper Jared Thompson plus defenders Reece James and Cole Dasilva returning at the back. Captain Josh Grant and Nartey continued as part of the back four, while the Blues continued to utilise a diamond in midfield. Luke McCormick started deepest, behind Conor Gallagher, Juan Castillo and Jacob Maddox, the latter in the number 10 position. Taylor-Crossdale bagged a brace last weekend and he joined Charlie Brown up front. Our annual trip to the south coast regularly brings a fiery encounter and this contest started no differently, with intermittent pyrotechnics in the night sky setting the mood for the evening's game. A number of early niggling fouls prevented either side from building momentum and it took eight minutes for the first effort, Taylor-Crossdale's low drive across goal palmed away to safety by Thomas McGill, the Seagulls keeper. Down the other end, Thompson claimed a number of high crosses into the 18-yard box, though he could only watch as Daniel Mandriou's deflected drive looped narrowly wide of his upright. The visitors made the breakthrough midway through the half and it was a familiar name on the scoresheet for Morris's men. Taylor-Crossdale picked up the ball centrally 20 yards out and fired an unstoppable rising strike into the top left corner for his 11th goal in 10 youth team appearances this term. Taylor-Crossdale went close again 10 minutes later following a lovely give-and-go with Maddox, though his shot fizzed just wide of the far post from the left side of goal. Castillo then blazed a left-footed drive over the crossbar before Brighton levelled three minutes before the interval as their growing confidence in the game found reward. Archie Davies advanced from right-back and his delivery was met by a clever run and accurate header by Cashman at the front post. The second period was an open contest as both sides looked to find the crucial third goal. McCormick’s shot was latched on to by Brown but he was thwarted by a well-timed block before the forward brought a low save from McGill following some quick footwork in the box. While Brighton looked dangerous on the break, it was the visitors largely pushing forward and creating the better opportunities as the game progressed. Grant got on the end of a Castillo cross but his header looped over before Taylor-Crossdale's effort was bravely headed behind by Owen Moore. Displaying more adventure in the final stages, the Blues found the back of the net twice in three minutes to secure a significant two-goal cushion for the final 15 minutes. Nartey was the unlikely man to fire us back in front, stooping low to head in substitute George McEachran's teasing delivery from close range. It was 3-1 before Brighton had the chance to settle as another introduction made a crucial impact. Hudson-Odoi skipped away from a challenge on halfway and advanced dangerously towards goal down the left channel before curling a perfect finish into the bottom far corner for his maiden youth team goal. The youngsters played intelligently to see the game out in the final stages, slowing the play down and retaining possession determinedly. The victory stretches their unbeaten form to seven matches as they leapfrog their London rivals to the summit of the league table.
