U23聯賽第15輪 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/02/ pl2-report--chelsea-v-reading.html PL2 report: Chelsea 2 Reading 0 Sun 5 Feb 2017 Our development squad capped a winning weekend across the Chelsea age groups as they followed yesterday's victories for Antonio Conte's first team and Jody Morris's Under-18s with a two-goal triumph of their own. An own goal in the first half handed us the lead before Ike Ugbo doubled the advantage shortly after the restart to give Adi Viveash's side their fourth consecutive home league win. The three points keep the Blues fourth in the Premier League 2 table. Viveash made two changes from our last outing over three weeks previously, a 4-0 away win at Leicester. Mukhtar Ali and Fikayo Tomori, both since departed on loan, were replaced by Charly Musonda and Todd Kane, the latter continuing his comeback from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered last April. Kane lined up at right-back as the Blues continued with a 4-2-3-1 system, while the rest of the back four and goalkeeper were unchanged. Bradley Collins started in goal, Dujon Sterling at left-back and Trevoh Chalobah partnered Joseph Colley at centre-back. Ugbo, our leading scorer in the league this term, led the line up front supported by Dominic Solanke, Charlie Wakefield and Musonda, while Mason Mount partnered Ruben Sammut in central midfield. Reading made six changes from their 3-3 draw with Derby County on Monday, while five of the Chelsea starters featured in our FA Youth Cup win on Wednesday. The Blues started brightly from the kick-off, with Kane firing wide of the near post within the opening 30 seconds following Ugbo's centre. However, the visitors grew into the opening period and forced the first save of the afternoon from Collins as Andy Rinomhota fed Andrija Novakovich down the right. The American's low shot was hit well but aimed straight at our keeper, who diverted the ball away from danger before Omar Richards shot wide from 25 yards out. Mount fired a warning shot for the hosts as he weaved his way into the box but his effort was too tame to trouble Luke Southwood in the Royals goal. Yet Viveash's side were ahead a minute later courtesy of some impressive work down the right from Wakefield. The winger skipped away from Richards before firing in a cross that hit Ugbo and then deflected in off Rob Dickie for an own goal. Following a hat-trick of assists at Leicester last time out, it continued a run of productive form for the 18-year-old. The contest settled as Reading tried to up the ante in search of an equaliser. Tennai Watson made a crucial intervention in his six-yard box, reading the danger from the right and snuffing out the threat as Wakefield tried to find Musonda with a cutback from the byline, before Josh Barrett's powerful drive from a narrow angle was kept out by Collins. Martin Kuhl's side ought to have levelled eight minutes before the break. Rinomhota advanced down the left and his deep cross was hooked back into the six-yard box by Barrett, though Joseph Mendes blasted over the bar from close range. The visitors would live to regret that miss as Ugbo made it 2-0 four minutes after the restart. Progress this time came down the left flank and Sterling turned provider, accelerating into space before delivering a low pass across goal that the striker poked in to hit a dozen goals for the season. It was a goal that initially deflated Reading and the Blues sensed the chance to add to the scoreline. Solanke fashioned some space on the edge of the box but failed to test Southwood with a low attempt before Mount was denied by the goalkeeper having been teed up brilliantly by Musonda. Richards made an important block from Mount as the visitors kept the deficit at two and then looked for a route back into the game. Mendes spurned another presentable chance from 10 yards out, firing wide on his left foot, before Collins made a smart stop down to his left to push away Axel Andresson's header. The game opened up in the final 10 minutes as Reading's risk-averse approach stepped up and Viveash's side looked to expose them on the break. Southwood twice denied us a third goal, first springing off his line to save at the feet of Solanke before pulling off a flying save to tip Ugbo's shot from distance behind. Down the other end, a searching pass in behind found Mendes and the striker did well to lift the ball over the stranded Collins, though the effort dropped narrowly the wrong side of the post for the visitors. Reading's number nine then shot straight at Collins in added time as the Blues recorded a second straight clean sheet and took their unbeaten run in the league to nine matches. Viveash's side return to league action with a home game against second-placed Manchester City on Friday 16 February. Meanwhile, our trip to Arsenal in the league has been rearranged and will now be played on Monday 17 April. The London derby was due to take place last week but was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
