https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/03/ under-18s-report--chelsea-v-man-utd.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 4 Man United 3 Sat 1 Apr 2017 Our youngsters moved to the top of the Under-18 Premier League elite merit group after winning an entertaining seven-goal thriller at Cobham. Ethan Hamilton and Juan Castillo struck early on before United twice cancelled out penalties from Conor Gallagher with strikes courtesy of Josh Bohui and Nishan Burkart. With over 10 minutes of additional time played, the Blues left it late but grabbed the winner as George McEachran sealed all three points with a neat finish. It is a second win in two games played in the merit round for Jody Morris's side as they look to be crowned national champions. Morris made four changes from the side that kicked off our merit group campaign with a 4-0 win away at West Ham three weeks previously. Jamie Cumming returned in goal protected by a back three of captain Richard Nartey, Reece James and Marc Guehi. Gallagher and Jacob Maddox came into the team in central midfield, while Cole Dasilva and Castillo continued to operate as wings-backs, the latter following an impressive performance on the left in our Youth Cup thumping of Tottenham. Martell Taylor-Crossdale continued to lead the line up front and was supported by the 16-year-old duo of McEachran and Callum Hudson-Odoi. United came into the fixture having drawn their opening two games in the top tier and they started brightly in the Cobham sunshine. Angel Gomes dictated much of the early play in midfield and his well-struck free-kick looked sure to provide Cumming with some early work but for the intervention of a well-positioned defensive wall. The ball deflected behind for a corner and the visitors kept up the pressure before taking a lead inside 10 minutes. Josh Bouhi did well to advance round the back down the right flank and the loose ball fell kindly into the path of Hamilton, who beat Cumming from 10 yards with the aid of a generous deflection. It asked a question of Morris's men, who hadn't conceded first in the league since November. The response was quick and impressive. Hudson-Odoi saw a strike blocked well before Castillo delivered a teasing cross from the left, though Taylor-Crossdale was unable to adjust his body to trouble Theo Richardson in the visitors' goal. Our equaliser arrived midway through the half. Taylor-Crossdale advanced threateningly down the right flank and rattled the crossbar with a rising drive but United struggled to clear the danger and Castillo picked up possession before bending a beautiful strike into the far top corner. Within five minutes of levelling, the hosts were ahead as the complexion of the game altered entirely. Taylor-Crossdale was the chief creator once again, bursting into the box before Richardson's outstretched leg illegally took him down. The referee didn't hesitate in pointing to the spot and Gallagher stepped up to convert with confidence. It could have been 4-1 by the interval as we carved out a handful of clear-cut opportunities as the break approached, Richardson making two crucial saves to keep his side in the game. The first was the more impressive as Taylor-Crossdale fired a low shot with plenty of power towards goal. Not able to get sight of the ball until late, the keeper dropped to his right and kept it out with a strong hand. Hudson-Odoi was then presented with a sight at goal as he bore down on the keeper but the schoolboy was guilty of delaying his decision, allowing Richardson to make a close-range stop. Gallagher fired in a strike from distance that was held well by the visiting number one shortly after the restart before United levelled seven minutes into the second half. Bohui's pace and movement had proved a threat all morning and the striker latched on to a pass forward before firing across goal and squeezing the shot beyond Cumming and into the bottom corner. It set up an entertaining spectacle as both sides pushed to find a winning goal. Richardson continued to excel as the standout performer for the visitors, clawing away two well-hit efforts from Taylor-Crossdale in quick succession before the Blues were awarded another penalty following a clumsy challenge on McEachran. Gallagher assumed spot-kick duties again and this time fired high to re-establish our advantage and claim his fourth goal of the campaign. However, United always remained a threat in the final third and looked to have claimed a point with nine minutes remaining. It was a poor goal from the Chelsea perspective, the ball kept in the box for too long before substitute Burkhart smashed it in from eight yards out. James and Nartey went close with headers from McEachran free-kick deliveries and it looked as if the points would be split until the officials played over 10 minutes of added time, an accumulation of various injury stoppages. The winner was fashioned down the left, Castillo accelerating into space before delivering a perfect centre for McEachran, whose finish lacked guile but not impact as it squirmed over the line. Cue the celebrations at Cobham as we made it a dozen wins in a row in all competitions and moved clear at the top of the league.
