Chelsea Women's Player of the Year award goes to England

Centre-forward Bethany England is the winner of the Chelsea Women's Player
of the Season award - presented by Millennium Hotels and Resorts.

It is no wonder Bethany England is the fans' choice for Women's Player of
the Season, given her outstanding individual efforts throughout 2019/20
and crucial role in Chelsea's Double-winning campaign.
It was an unusual season but for Bethany, it was exceptional in more ways
than one.
In a year when every minute mattered, as the Blues were awarded the
Women's Super League on points per game and clinched the only cup that
reached its conclusion, our Barnsley-born No.9 made the very most of them,
playing in all 15 fixtures of our top-flight charge and starring during
our Continental Cup winning run.
She finished as Chelsea's top scorer with 21 goals in 24 outings, 14 of
those in the WSL, while her seven cup goals eclipsed every other player in
the competition. Had she been able to carry her prolific form into the
missing remainder of the season, at that rate, her tally would have gone
over the 30-goal threshold.

However, it was not just the number of goals she put away that earned her
recognition from across the league, most notably the division-wide Player
of the Season accolade; it was also the nature of them, the timing of her
contributions in headline matches proving as perfect as the timing of the
strikes themselves.
England opened her and her team's account for the season with a
show-stopping goal at Stamford Bridge on opening day, ensuring the Blues
made a winning start against Tottenham in front of our record crowd for a
women's home game.

She also found the net in our opening League Cup game, with a smart finish
at home to West Ham, before going on to achieve the individual milestone
of her first goal for England's Lionesses against Brazil. We might have
said she stamped her name on the England side, had it not been there
already.
Back from international duty, the goals kept coming in London derbies: a
crucial equaliser at home to Arsenal – the first of four against the
Gunners in the campaign – a quickfire brace against Crystal Palace, and
two more against Spurs as part of our 5-1 win in the cup.
That was before she embarked on a remarkable streak of scoring in eight
consecutive league outings. She scored the equaliser in our comeback
against Man City as we made it 10 wins on the spin.

Then came what turned out to be a fantastically fruitful flourish to the
season. She crucially fired in a 30-yard rocket to earn us a point in the
3-3 draw away to City.
England's pace, muscle and finishing ability were hallmarks of her
outstanding attacking play last term and we enjoyed them one more time
when she notched both goals as we got our hands on our maiden Continental
Cup, defeating Arsenal 2-1 shortly before lockdown.

She also won the WSL monthly individual award in January and February as
the season drew to an early close, as well as the PFA Player of the Month
award at the start of the year. She has been rewarded with a contract
extension to keep her at the club until 2024, so there is plenty more to
come from Beth.

Tomori wins Goal of the Season

Fikayo Tomori's brilliant strike away at Wolverhampton Wanderers has been
voted by fans as the 2019/20 Chelsea Goal of the Season, presented by
Rexona.

Due to the pandemic, the usual Chelsea awards ceremony is not taking place
this year. Although players, staff and supporters are not able to gather
for an evening celebrating the success stories of our season, we are still
honouring the Blues' best performers in the recently concluded campaign.
All the award winners will be announced on this website over the course of
today, starting with Tomori's Goal of the Season, and the players will be
presented with their trophies at Cobham during training.

Fikayo's outrageous goal at Molineux was one of 12 from our men's, women's
and Academy teams nominated for the award. It was voted by fans as the
winner in online poll ahead of efforts by Mason Mount, Lewis Bate,
Willian, Sophie Ingle, N'Golo Kante, Tino Anjorin, Olivier Giroud, Bethany
England, Ross Barkley and two from Christian Pulisic.

REVEALED: Your Chelsea goal of the season from 2019/20
Tomori is certainly a worthy winner for his first-time shot from long
range which left Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio grasping at thin air and
opened the scoring in a thrilling 5-2 victory at Molineux back in
September.
Impressively, it was the young England international's first-ever goal for
Chelsea on his fourth appearance for the club, and only his second start
in a Blues shirt.
Our Goal of the Season award has been running in its current form since
2007 and Tomori becomes the first centre-back to be voted as the winner,
and the first defender full stop in a decade, since Ashley Cole in 2010.

Gilmour named Chelsea Academy Player of the Season

Billy Gilmour has been honoured with the award recognising achievement
while playing for Chelsea's Academy teams, following a successful season
for the development squad which led to his emergence at men's first-team
level.

The midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Glasgow Rangers
and progressed through the Chelsea youth development ranks quickly,
picking up the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August 2019
after a memorable few weeks for the youngster. He had earlier signed a new
contract and made his senior debut but ultimately his 2019/20 season was
cut short by a knee injury that required surgery in July.
In the same month Gilmour made the six-man shortlist for the PL2 Player of
the Season award. Chelsea's development squad were later named PL2
champions after the season's league table was finalised on a
points-per-game basis. Gilmour captained the development squad side on
numerous occasions, starting 11 of the 18 PL2 games, scoring two goals and
assisting for four of them as Andy Myers' team clinched the title.

Chelsea Academy Player of the Year 2020
Across all Academy competitions the Scotsman made 15 appearances, catching
the eye of Frank Lampard earlier enough for his senior debut to come last
August in a Premier League match at home to Sheffield United. In total,
Gilmour was given 11 outings by Lampard last term. Among them were two
man-of-the-match performances in wins against Liverpool and Everton.
The announcement of the Academy Player of the Season Award winner follows
the unveiling of Goal of the Season earlier today. The winner of that
accolade is Fikayo TomorI for his rocket shot against Wolverhampton
Wanderers at Molineux.
The Player of the Year for the men's and women's teams will be announced
later today.
