Four Blues make final shortlist for prestigious UEFA awards

Thomas Tuchel and Emma Hayes have been shortlisted for prestigious UEFA
Coach of the Year awards, while two Chelsea midfielders are in the final
three in the Men's Player of the Year category.

Our German head coach secured an extraordinary Champions League triumph
just four months after taking the reins at Stamford Bridge, masterminding
a victory over fellow nominee Pep Guardiola and Manchester City in the
European final. Tuchel has since added the UEFA Super Cup to his
impressive collection following our victory over Villarreal in Belfast
earlier this month.
The three-man shortlist was selected by a jury composed of the 24 national
team coaches who took part in Euro 2020, as well as the 80 coaches of the
clubs which played in last season's Champions League and Europa League
group stages. The jury was also supplemented by 55 journalists from across
the continent.
Following a points-based voting process, Tuchel was named among the top
three alongside Guardiola and Italy's Euro 2020-winning boss Roberto
Mancini.

Hayes is shortlisted in the Women's Coach of the Year category after
guiding her side to the Champions League final for the first time in the
club's history.

The Blues boss also orchestrated domestic dominance with another Women's
Super League triumph alongside Continental Tyres League Cup success. Lluis
Cortes of Barcelona, who beat Hayes's side in the final, and Sweden's
Peter Gerhardsson make up the final three.

In the player category, N'Golo Kante and Jorginho ensure Chelsea make up
two-thirds of the final shortlist, alongside Kevin De Bruyne. The duo were
integral to us capturing the biggest prize in European football for the
second time in our history, with the Italian going on to add international
silverware to a glorious summer.

Meanwhile, Kante was named UEFA's Player of the Match in both legs of our
semi-final victory over Real Madrid, as well as the final in Porto, during
which he won more aerial duels than any Chelsea player and registered the
highest number of ball recoveries to disrupt City’s passing game.
In the separate UEFA positional awards, a total of eight Blues have made
the final cut in their respective categories. They are Edouard Mendy,
Cesar Azpilicueta, Toni Rudiger, Kante and Jorginho for the men's team,
and Ann-Katrin Berger, Magda Eriksson and Ji-So Yun for the women's team.
The award winners will be announced at the draw for the 2021/22 Champions
League group stage next Thursday 26 August in Istanbul.
