The Frenchman was offered the chance to swap west for east London in the summer transfer window when West Ham made a move for the defender, with Zouma believing it was the 'perfect fit' for the next step of his career. Speaking ahead of the visit to face Zouma and his Hammers team-mates tomorrow lunchtime, Tuchel admitted that the performances of Trevoh Chalobah in pre-season influenced the club's decision to allow Kurt to move on. 'We replaced him with Trevoh because we had the trust in Trevoh,' Tuchel explained. 'Until this moment we couldn't allow him to go, because of course we are selfish, and we have to see if we have a strong squad but you have to see the situation of Kurt also, and his point of view. https://i.imgur.com/oeMUPXe.jpg
Zouma in pre-season action before leaving the club in late August 'He is a strong, experienced Premier League player and he suffered from the decision for [Cesar] Azpilicueta in the back three, for Andreas [Christensen] and for Toni [Rudiger] in the back three as direct competitors to his place so he had not enough minutes for his status and quality and for where he wants to be in this time of his career. 'We had many talks about it during the pre-season and reflected on his and our positions, the more we got to know Trevoh we thought maybe if Kurt arrives with the wish constantly to go, he can. https://i.imgur.com/mGQj88C.jpg
'For many weeks there was not an offer that interested him, so it was always clear. For me, I love Kurt and I told him I love him. I said we don't need to do these talks because I am happy if you stay, even if Trevoh comes in. 'I said you are a top-quality player and you have to fight for your place and you always have a chance to play but it is hard competition.' The Lyon-born defender has started all of West Ham's last 10 Premier League games and scored the winner in a 3-2 win over Liverpool just under a month ago. 'He was always a top guy in the dressing room and a top guy on the pitch,' Tuchel beamed. 'I mean, his second name is Happy! This is really for a reason. He has the biggest smile that you can imagine. When he smiles, you are instantly also happy. https://i.imgur.com/1kxz0rl.jpg
Zouma netted 10 goals for the Blues, seven of which were headers 'He had a huge influence, and he was very well respected. And very late, this offer came from West Ham and very late he decided and gave me that call and we had the talks. This is an offer that may be the perfect fit for me.' The Bavarian also stated the club now believe the risk to replace Zouma with Cobham graduate Trevoh Chalobah has paid off. 'We had to make a decision and we respected the wish because he was long time a player here and we took a bit of a risk to fully trust Trevoh which we did not know in this moment if he can reach the consistent level,' the boss added. 'I think we got rewarded and we allowed him. 'I have nothing but good words for Kurt. I am happy I was his coach, and he is doing fantastic for West Ham which is not a surprise.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/12/04/ -it-s-very-hard-to-drop-him----tuchel-on-the-numbers-that-make-m 'It's very hard to drop him' – Tuchel on the numbers that make Mount so important 04 Nov 2021 Thomas Tuchel knows that numbers matter in football and so Chelsea's contrasting win ratio with and without Mason Mount in the team has most certainly been noted by the coaching staff in recent weeks. https://i.imgur.com/AF4gkDQ.jpg
The England midfielder has started nine games for the Blues in all competitions this term, with the team unbeaten in winning eight and drawing the other of that collection. That 89 per cent win percentage compares less favourably to when he is out of the team; in 13 matches where he has either began on the bench or not featured at all, we have lost two and drawn five, with a win ratio of just 46 per cent. The fact that his team are almost twice as likely to win when Mount starts has not been lost on Tuchel, who keeps a close eye on such statistics. 'Maybe it's luck or maybe it's the effect he has to be the edge and to put the edge to our side,' said the Blues head coach. 'We know about this because it's a kind of statistic that is sometimes quite interesting, like who is on the pitch when we win, who starts when we win, who ends the matches when we win. We are aware of these statistics.' While perhaps having some impact on his thinking, Tuchel admitted that it was just one part of a much bigger picture, with the effect of one player rarely more important than the team as a whole. However, he was quick to praise the 22-year-old for setting standards both in application and quality. 'I first heard about these statistics in American basketball, where the influence from one player is much higher because it's five against five compared to 11 against 11 playing with your foot,' continued the boss. 'It's not a statistic that guarantees you to start because this would be maybe a bit too easy but it's something that we cannot deny. https://i.imgur.com/av4n2nP.jpg
Mount netted his fourth goal of the season in our midweek win at Watford 'To have Mason brings a certain attitude, aura and mentality on the field and it's nice that he has this winning ratio. We are aware of it and it's full credit to him.' Our difference in performance without the midfielder among the starters therefore makes Mount a difficult man to leave out. 'It's very hard to drop him because even when he has not-so-good games, you still always get full energy, positivity and a wonderful approach to the game,' added Tuchel. 'He is very passionate and has almost a deep love with the game, always ready to give everything to contribute fully. That's why it is hard to drop him but sometimes we do. 'He came back from an injury and we felt him a bit tired, then he also had his tooth surgery so sometimes we have to and it's the same criteria for everybody, to fight for their place. This is where we are.' -- Burrell: "If the Gods are fucking you, you find a way to fuck them back. It's Baltimore, gentlemen.
