Low on Tuchel latest and which goalkeeper Chelsea will pick

Chelsea men's first team coach Zsolt Low has provided an update on Thomas
Tuchel and discussed the tricky goalkeeping decision that will need to be
made ahead of tomorrow's Club World Cup final.

Tuchel has been isolating since testing positive for Covid-19 at the end
of last week and has not been able to travel to Abu Dhabi yet as the Blues
seek to add fresh silverware to our trophy cabinet.
There is still hope the boss can travel, as Low explained in a pre-match
media conference looking forward to our meeting with Palmeiras to decide
which club are champions of the world.
'We still have 30 hours until the game,' said Low. 'We still hope he can
come and enjoy the group and the final as soon as possible.
'He is following the rules and getting tested. There is a lot of time. Any
test he does could be negative. We hope this happens in the next hours.
Thomas absolutely thinks he can be there, and the team and the whole staff
want him to come for the final.
'We hope he can come, but if he cannot, we are still well prepared. We
have had a lot of meetings. We had a video conference after the first game
analysing it, and seeing what we can do better and what problems we had.
We are absolutely clear what happened in the first game and what we have
to do better in the second game.'
The big decision awaiting the coaching staff centres on which goalkeeper
to select. Edouard Mendy has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations fresh
from helping Senegal triumph, while in his absence Kepa has starred
between the posts for us, not least in the narrow semi-final victory over
Al Hilal on Wednesday.
It is clear plenty of thought will go into the decision.
'We are very happy with both goalkeepers,' stressed Low. 'It's a good,
comfortable situation to have two goalkeepers like this. When Edou
couldn't be with the team, Kepa stepped up and brought big performances.
'Now Edou is back, he is fresh. Now he is fully involved in yesterday's
training and training later today. We are very happy he is healthy. He is
in good shape with good experience behind him, and he is absolutely ready
to play the game [if selected].

Low was on media duties again in Tuchel's absence
'We have to take this decision tonight or latest tomorrow. We talk to
Thomas about it, we talk with the goalkeeper coaches, and we will make the
final decision tomorrow, some hours before the game.
'Whoever sits on the bench has nothing to be worried or sad about. Both
goalkeepers have had big performances in the last weeks, and that's why
it's just a decision for this game.'

Chelsea today can add a new piece of silverware to our crowded trophy
cabinet, and men's first team coach Zsolt Low says the team are ready to
write a new chapter in Blues history.

We meet Palmeiras of Brazil with the Club World Cup at stake. The only
previous occasion we participated in this tournament we lost the final to
one of the Parakeets' big Sao Paulo rivals, Corinthians.
Later in that 2012/13 season we lifted the Europa League for the first
time in our history, meaning the Club World Cup remains the only trophy we
have yet to triumph in.
'It was a long time ago, but we are very aware how good the Brazilian
teams are in the Club World Cup,' said Low, looking back at that final in
Yokohama.
'Now we have a different team and a different coaching team, and this will
be a different game. We want to have the feeling of a favourite in this
game as the champions of Europe, and we are confident.

The decisive moment in the semi-final
'We were a little bit nervous in the first game, but I hope now we have
done the first game of the tournament the nervousness has gone, and we can
play a very good game with a good attitude.
'This is a big competition for us,' Low continued. 'Only two English clubs
have won it before. Chelsea have never won this trophy, and that's why we
are very interested in having a good performance and winning this title.
If we can win this title, the collection for Chelsea is complete.'
Standing in our way are the 2020 and 2021 Copa Libertadores champions.
Palmeiras edged past Flamengo after extra-time in the most recent final
last November, leaving Kenedy and former Blues David Luiz and Filipe Luis
disappointed.

Just like Corinthians fans in Japan, a huge travelling support from Brazil
is in Abu Dhabi hoping to help Palmeiras emulate their state rivals. Sao
Paulo were the first winners of the rejuvenated tournament back in 2005,
future Blue Mineiro netting the solitary goal against Liverpool.
'We know a lot about Palmeiras,' Low underlined. 'We watched a lot of
games of theirs. We watched the last game against Al Ahly live, and we
watched also the Copa Libertadores final, so we have seen what we have to
see.
'Thiago Silva and Kenedy have talked about how good the Palmeiras fans
are, and we expect a lot at the game. It can be like a small away game for
us, but we are well prepared. We are also strong.
'They are a very emotional team with a lot of energy,' added Low of what
we can expect from Palmeiras. 'We see that in every game they play. Every
player has very good technical quality. They have a European coach now who
has found the structure in the team and created a good working team. In
the last 10 games they haven't lost, and they are in good shape and good
form.
'On the other side, we are also in good shape and good form. That's why I
expect a very good game.'
