Chelsea will be at Wembley on Sunday for our fourth cup final since Tuchel became head coach in January last year, meaning the German has plenty of experience when it comes to preparing a team for big games on the big stage. He admits he hasn't decided yet what his final words to the players will be before they head out onto the Wembley pitch in pursuit of more silverware, but feels that comes second in importance to the work they do every day, believing it is vital for his team to carry on in the same manner which got us to the final. 'It's not decided yet but you hear me say a lot of times that we take care about the daily process,' said Tuchel. 'I don't think that you take care of the final on the day before the final or on the day of the final. 'You take care of the final on a daily basis before, when nobody thinks about the final, because this is what brings you there. Then the closer you get, the more routine, the more behaviours, the more principles must be installed that you can trust yourself and that you can be free because in the end the tension is growing. https://i.imgur.com/MtVsSy0.jpg
Tuchel works with his players on the training pitch ahead of Sunday's final 'We try to give less information, we try to trust them and trust in ourselves. For me this is not the moment to do crazy things, crazy talks, but even that changes from occasion to occasion, from feeling to feeling. It depends how you feel your team, what was the approach to the final and the opponent.' Of course, on this occasion we face an opponent Tuchel knows well in Klopp's Liverpool, from their time managing together in Germany, as well as the Premier League over the last year. With the Reds on a run of nine consecutive wins in all competitions, including a 6-0 thrashing of Leeds United last time out, our head coach acknowledges we go into the his final as slight underdogs, but doesn't necessarily see that as a handicap. 'Playing against teams who are coached by Jurgen is not only pure pleasure, because they give you a hard time and of course we're facing him with a very strong Liverpool team on a very strong run of games, run of results, in brilliant form. https://i.imgur.com/GEiYtmI.jpg
'I think to a 51 or 55 per cent they are the favourites because of recent form, recent results. But we all know, like when we were the favourites against Lille and maybe still are, we know that in the end when we arrive, Lille will play to their full level and they will play the role as an underdog and not accept it as a disadvantage. So will we.' Tuchel and Klopp have squared off three times in the Premier League over the last year. All three were close games, with the Blues winning 1-0 last season before draws at Stamford Bridge and Anfield this term, and Thomas feels our experience of matching Liverpool in those games is a big cause for confidence going into Sunday's final. 'We have things to trust on. We have experienced matches, tight matches against Liverpool, the last two were both draws. That will not happen obviously in Wembley, we will find a winner somehow. We know very well what it takes to have a tough match against them and we feel confident we have everything that it takes and now we need to show it. I think it's the same for them and it's nice to have a match like this in a final. 'So it's a big challenge but it's a big occasion and we feel absolutely competitive regarding our last matches against Liverpool and this is where we want to continue. In the end it's a pleasure to meet Jurgen, it's a pleasure to be in a final at Wembley again and I'm very grateful for that.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2022/02/26/tuchel--we-re-more-than-a-cup-team Tuchel: We're more than a cup team but I don't mind that tag 26 Feb 2022 As he prepares to lead the Blues into a fifth final in just over a year in charge, Thomas Tuchel has claimed that his Chelsea side are more than just cup specialists, although he claimed being viewed as knockout kings was hardly something to worry about... https://i.imgur.com/RGfYzPJ.jpg
Liverpool await in Sunday's Carabao Cup climax at Wembley, with Tuchel's men hoping to add domestic glory to triumphs on the continental and world stage in recent months. However, Jurgen Klopp's side are currently 10 points above the west Londoners in the Premier League table, leading some observers to contrast our differing fortunes in league and cup competitions. With victories over the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City twice and Manchester United in cup ties, the suggestion is that Tuchel's men can beat any opponent on their day but have struggled over the more gruelling, nine-month campaign. Yet our German head coach believes that tangible progress is being made on both fronts. 'Are we in the beginning of a process to translate this into a league campaign? Yes, we are but still it's not like we are underperforming regarding where we came from a year ago,' he claimed. 'We should also allow ourselves to not be too negative about being third place [in the league] at the moment and playing all these different competitions at the same time. https://i.imgur.com/NTDhjYl.jpg
The boss puts his players through their paces at Cobham this week 'There are an awful lot of positive things in this development and there are so many good things to build on that we should not turn it around and say “this is just a cup team and not a league team.” This is simply not true and I don't believe it. 'If people want to look at it like that it's fair enough. It's their opinion and I say let everybody have their opinion but we will focus on what we're doing and that is taking care about the process on a daily basis and going step by step.' With winners' medals in the Champions League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup already accumulated during his short time in England, Tuchel certainly doesn't agree that his side's silverware achievements should be downplayed. In fact, the 48-year-old prefers to view such talk as a compliment if people label Chelsea cup specialists under his stewardship. 'I like it if we're seen and regarded like this because in the end it's appreciation that we are competitive and that we know what it takes to reach finals,' he said. 'That's always a tough way to go, it's always necessary to focus step by step, and all this is included if you reach a final, so there's a lot of appreciation in it.' Nevertheless, a final always produces a victor and a beaten party, something Tuchel is only too aware of having tasted defeat in the FA Cup final last term, as well as the Champions League while in charge of Paris Saint-Germain in 2020. 'Of course, we cannot hide from the fact that reaching a final and winning a final is a whole different thing,' he added. 'Even if you know before that there must be a loser, you simply don't want to be that team.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2022/02/25/ tuchel--this-final-means-so-much-to-me Tuchel: This final means so much to me 26 Feb 2022 Thomas Tuchel has expressed his delight at N'Golo Kante returning to some of his best form for Chelsea, while also relishing the prospect of facing compatriot Jurgen Klopp in an English domestic cup final. https://i.imgur.com/lS7mUys.jpg
The boss is unbeaten in his three games against Liverpool as Chelsea boss, drawing twice and winning once, at Anfield last season. Speaking about facing Klopp for a fourth time in England, the Bavarian spoke of his pride and excitement ahead of Sunday's encounter. 'It feels great. I am so grateful to be a part of it. We both come from more or less the same club,' Tuchel said. 'I had my first experience coaching professional football at Mainz, he was a legendary player and coach at Mainz and I came after him. 'We met in the Champions League and Premier League, we have played against each other in the Europa League and now in the Wembley final. https://i.imgur.com/rjTF7zu.jpg
This will be the eighth meeting between the pair as managers 'This is amazing and I am so grateful to be a part of it, to have these experiences. It means an awful lot to me, to have this and I respect your English tradition of cup football and of Wembley. I can tell you, this means so much to me,' the boss added. Tuchel was also asked about the prospect of N'Golo Kante claiming the only trophy he is yet to get his hands on in England, the League Cup. 'To have players in your squad like Azpi and N'Golo, who take care of matches like this, who have the experience and know what it takes, it is so important. It gives you a genuine belief and you cannot substitute this with anything else. Not with talking, or video.' Kante has returned to some of his best form in a Chelsea shirt in recent weeks after a tricky winter period with injuries. 'At the moment, I am happy that N'Golo has found his form again after struggling in the latest games,' Tuchel said. https://i.imgur.com/anJKfVn.jpg
N'Golo with the UEFA Man of the Match vs Lille 'He was good at Crystal Palace and brilliant against Lille. He was the key player that he is for us. It makes the manager sleep good before important matches if N'Golo and Azpi, the captain, are in good shape. It is a good sign.'
