Three suspends sponsorship of Chelsea with logo to be removed from shirts

Chelsea sponsors Three has suspended its sponsorship of the club in the
wake of the sanctions dished out to owner Roman Abramovich. Three's deal
with Chelsea is thought to be worth ￡40 million per year.

Abramovich was hit with sanctions on Thursday morning by the UK
government, with Chelsea protected by a government license. Described by
the UK government as a “pro-Kremlin oligarch”, Abramovich has been
sanctioned with an asset freeze and a travel ban.
A number of sponsors have said their deals with the club are under review.
Now Three, the telecommunications and internet provider, has confirmed it
wants its logo removed from Chelsea's shirts.
A Three spokesperson said: “In light of the government's recently
announced sanctions, we have requested Chelsea Football Club temporarily
suspend our sponsorship of the club, including the removal of our brand
from shirts and around the stadium until further notice.
“We recognise that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who
follow their team passionately. However, we feel that given the
circumstances, and the Government sanction that is in place, it is the
right thing to do.
“As a mobile network, the best way we can support the people of Ukraine
is to ensure refugees arriving in the UK from the conflict and customers
currently in Ukraine can stay connected to the people who matter to them.
Therefore, we are offering connectivity packages to all Ukrainians
arriving in the UK, and those in Ukraine.”
Chelsea still wore shirts with the Three logo on in their game against
Norwich City on Thursday night. Three has sponsored Chelsea since 2020.
The agreement is set to run until the summer of 2023.

切爾西俱樂部老闆阿布拉莫維奇被英國政府制裁後，不少贊助商正在重新考慮與
切爾西俱樂部的合作關係，英國媒體稱切爾西恐面臨贊助商解約潮。
據競技網報導，切爾西球衣胸前廣告贊助商 Three 已經暫停他們與切爾西的合
作。而據《每日郵報》報導，球衣生產商耐吉公司也考慮與切爾西解約。耐吉與切爾
西在2016年簽署了15年總價9億英鎊的合同，耐吉如果解約，切爾西將損失5.4億英鎊
的收入。據悉韓國汽車現代、瑞士手錶宇舶也都考慮與切爾西解約。
疫情之前，切爾西從各大品牌獲得的贊助收入是兩億英鎊，去年雖然受疫情影響
有所降低，但也達到1.54億英鎊。如果贊助商紛紛解約，切爾西除了面臨阿布資金被
凍結的問題外，還會面臨贊助金額暴跌的問題，俱樂部恐難以為繼。

Fellow sponsor Zapp has also paused its activities with the club. A
spokesperson said: "Given the ongoing uncertainty related to the ownership
situation of Chelsea F.C., our marketing activities with the club have
been paused.
"In the meantime, we trust that the UK government and Chelsea F.C. can
find a solution that is in the interests of football fans and the local
community as soon as possible."

In a statement, MSC Cruises said: “Chelsea Football Club has a been a
long-standing member of the football family with widespread appeal both
locally and internationally which is why we decided to partner with the
club.
“We look forward to the transition of ownership and will continue to
support the club and its fans. In the meantime, we have decided to
temporarily withdraw the marketing activities included in our partnership
until further notice and we thank the team at Chelsea Football Club for
their understanding.”
