Kalidou Koulibaly has yet to play a minute under Graham Potter, and the
new head coach has explained why that has been the case and detailed how
the defender has reacted to being omitted.

Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva were selected for the late show at Crystal
Palace on Saturday, and in Potter's first game, the Champions League draw
with RB Salzburg, that duo were joined by Cesar Azpilicueta in a back
three.
Koulibaly and Potter were on press conference duty at Stamford Bridge
today ahead of our next European outing, AC Milan the visitors tomorrow,
with the Senegalese defender insisting he was relaxed about his current
predicament. When asked earlier, Potter stressed how pleased he has been
with how Koulibaly has dealt with his absence.
'I've been really impressed with him,' said Potter. 'As a person he is
honest, and he understands his situation in terms of having to wait a
little bit to play. Every player will say they're not happy with that, but
it's how you respond. His response has been fantastic, very hard-working,
very honest, and he's trained really well.
'He's come from a club and a country he was very familiar with and
comfortable with. Making the step into the Premier League is not so easy.
Things have happened with changes at the club, so it's not the perfect
situation for him, but he's a top player and a top person. With that
character, he will play an important role for us, that's for sure.'
Another player who has already had a significant impact under Potter is
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The striker opened his Chelsea account at Selhurst Park with a clinical
finish, and the head coach believes Auba's adaption to life at the Bridge
is going well as he and his family try to move on from the horrific armed
assault they endured in Barcelona this summer.
'The best thing for him is to play football, put that incident behind him
as quickly as possible, and be in a place where he feels comfortable and
happy,' Potter said.

'From what I've seen, I think he feels that here. He's acted really
professionally. He's always happy with the group and his team-mates, so
I've been really impressed with him.
'What happened was horrific, but I can only think about he conducts
himself with us, and he's been perfect.'

Graham Potter's third game in charge of Chelsea is, just like his first, a
home Champions League fixture. Tonight, the grand old name of AC Milan
awaits the Blues, with plenty on the line for both sides.

For the first time since our maiden Champions League campaign, back in
1999/00, we have failed to win either of our opening two group stage
fixtures. Incidentally, that was the last time we faced AC Milan in a
competitive meeting, and with four points from their first two games this
time around, the Italians head to west London with the upper hand in the
group.
As he looks forward to a big game in terms of both importance and
prestige, Potter is prepared for the Serie A champions to pose up plenty
of problems.
'They're an absolutely top team,' said the head coach. 'I've been really
impressed. They have a clear idea of how they want to attack and how they
want to defend, with different ways to score. It's a massive challenge for
us, an exciting challenge for us, and one the boys are really looking
forward to.

'It's important to win your home games and that's what we will try for,'
added Potter. 'We have to play well and we have to create a good
atmosphere for our supporters to get behind us, that's our job. If you
drop your level, sometimes you can get away it, but against the very best
teams, which these teams are, they can punish you. That's what is exciting
about this competition.'
AC Milan arrive in west London with two former Blues in their Champions
League squad. Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori both departed for the San
Siro last year.
Giroud played a major role in Milan's domestic season earlier this year,
and has formed an impressive strike partnership with Rafael Leao, the
Portuguese forward who has been linked with a move to the Premier League.
'He contributes to how they attack and how they score,' Potter said of the
25-year-old. 'In terms of what happens in the future, who knows. He's got
the capability for sure. He's affecting games at the highest level against
top opponents.

Leao and Giroud celebrate a goal last season
'Giroud is somebody Chelsea knows well,' Potter continued. 'He is a
fantastic player, plays the game in a really good well. He uses his
quality, uses his strengths.
'It's a top team, and we have to be really, really good to get the result
we want.'
