足球聯盟盃南區G組第三輪精華 https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/efl-report-leyton-orient-2-chelsea-3 EFL Trophy report: Leyton Orient 2 Chelsea 3 18 Oct 2022 Our development squad scored two late goals through second-half substitute Malik Mothersille to make it through to the next round of the Papa Johns Trophy, after an exciting clash against our League Two opponents. https://i.imgur.com/VQIOhDE.jpg
The game was delayed and kicked off at 8.30 due to heavy traffic which affected our arrival at The Breyer Group Stadium. The delay in kick-off did little to impact the start to the game as both sides looked to show their quality early on. Omari Hutchinson was presented with a great chance to score early on, but he blasted over with his weaker foot. It was then the turn of Leyton Orient who tested the sharpness of Eddie Beach as Jayden Sweeney fired goalwards and the Chelsea goalkeeper tipped over. We began to control most of the first period as Charlie Webster and Ben Elliott both had snapshots which went very close to opening the scoring. Jayden Wareham on-loan at Leyton Orient from our young Blues had the home team's best chance of the first half as his effort just went wide. Sweeney was again involved early in the second as he seemed to have a clear sight of goal but the lack of power in his shot meant that Beach had it covered. The second half was where the deadlock was broken, and Hutchinson scored a fine solo goal. He ran alone towards goal and finished emphatically past Sam Sargeant. The goal woke The Os up and they turned the game on its head in the space of six minutes. Paul Smyth's driven cross was turned into his own net by Dylan Williams and then Aaron Drinan who was fouled in the penalty box by Lewis Hall, converted the resulting penalty to overturn their deficit. We fought back and showed great determination as two goals from second-half substitute Mothersille, both times provided by Hutchinson, meant that we secured our place in the next round of the competition and knocked out Leyton Orient. == Team news == There was only one change made to the side that drew 3-3 with Manchester United in the PL2 this past weekend and that came in the form of Josh Brooking who replaced Derrick Abu. https://i.imgur.com/Nf66LRG.jpg
Malik Mothersille was looking to make his first appearance for the U-21 team this season following injury == Fast start == We were presented with an opportunity almost instantly as the in-form Hutchinson found space to drive into the box. The attacker shifted the ball onto his right foot and with only the keeper to beat he skied his effort. https://i.imgur.com/Gh7Id4G.jpg
Omari Hutchinson had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the first few minutes of the game The home side settled into a rhythm and quickly created their first chance as good individual work from Sweeney provided him the space to take a shot that needed saving from Beach. The early moments of the game proved to be back and forth as both teams were getting into advanced areas but besides the two early chances for both sides, neither could create anything clear cut. == In control == It was our development squad who created the game's next big chance as a sweeping team move involving Humphreys and Rankine ended with Webster finding space in the box but with more time than he realised, he dragged his shot wide. Another chance fell our way as Casadei intercepted well and drove with the ball through the heart of the Orient midfield. He found Elliott in a pocket of space and in a smooth motion the midfielder turned and shot with his left foot with his effort just going wide. We were getting closer to a deserved lead and Webster went on a mazy run which led to him being fouled on the edge of the box. == Wary of home side's threat == Against the run of play a long hopeful ball found its way to Charlie Kelman and his cross found the outstretched toe of on-loan Chelsea striker Wareham but his attempt at goal trickled just wide with Beach beaten. https://i.imgur.com/Dfw2TjM.jpg
On-loan Chelsea striker Jayden Wareham in action for Leyton Orient against his parent club Sweeney had the second period's first clear chance but despite creating space for a shot he failed to threaten with his eventual effort. == Exchange of goals and leads == Despite their good start to the second it was our young Blues who broke the deadlock as Hutchinson picked up the ball from just inside their half and drove goalwards. We had the man advantage as Rankine was making a run on his right side, but the talented attacker went alone and buried into the top corner. Fantastic solo effort. https://i.imgur.com/sDKzuaG.jpg
Omari Hutchinson lashed the ball into the top corner of the net The home side made some changes to try to change the game and it was second half substitute Smyth who brought them level as his cross went in off a heavy deflection from Dylan Williams. The young left-back immediately found himself in the area following the restart and he lashed an effort goalwards that was saved well by the goalkeeper. It went from bad to worse for our young Blues though as a tussle in the box between Hall and another substitute Drinan led to the former fouling the latter and committing a penalty. Drinan took the penalty and slotted into the bottom corner of the net. When it looked like we were down and out a late counter-attack after a loose ball in midfield was led by Hutchinson. The attacker found a substitute of our own in Mothersille and in his first appearance for the U-21 team this season he calmly rounded the and slotted into the empty net. https://i.imgur.com/uKUG4cp.jpg
Malik Mothersille slotting home the first of his two goals It was that combination again as our young Blues secured passage into the next round of the competition as group winners with Hutchinson finding space and laying the ball for Mothersille to tap into an empty net. A last-minute header from a corner from Ogie was heading for the bottom corner but Hutchinson cleared off the line as victory was sealed. This extends our unbeaten run in all competitions to seven games as we look ahead to Blackburn Rovers in the PL2 on Saturday afternoon. POS. We took the lead midway through the first half at Brisbane Road through Omari Hutchinson's solo effort and up until that point we had looked very comfortable in the game. However, Orient fought back and with just over 10 minutes to go we found ourselves behind following a Dylan Williams own goal and an Aaron Drinan penalty. With progress hanging in the balance, second-half substitute Malik Mothersille rounded the keeper a minute from time and slotted into the net to level the scores. After providing the assist for Mothersille's first, Hutchinson again found himself in the right position to pass across goal for Mothersille to score his second of the game and win us the match late on. https://i.imgur.com/AeEnwp7.jpg
Omari Hutchinson had a game to remember as he provided two assists, a goal and a goal line clearance Robinson, who had spoken in the build-up about his team's need to see out games, was very pleased to see progress made in that department. 'We have given away points on a few occasions this season so it was really pleasing to see them show the resilience to come back and win the game with some exciting football,' he told us shortly after the final whistle in east London. Recent Premier League 2 games against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Leicester City have seen us surrender winning positions so yesterday's showing felt even more impressive and Robinson went on to provide an insight into the instructions he gave the team prior to the game. 'We have spoken about where generally Under-21 teams come up short in this competition, for example with defensive set-pieces, being effective at opposition restarts, as well as first and second balls,' he continued, reflecting also on his experience in this competition as head coach of AFC Wimbledon in his previous job. 'Those have been targets within our performances as these are key to them being trusted when they move onto first team football at any level.' The aim now is consistency and to carry this momentum into the upcoming games before the break due to the World Cup. 'Consistency across all the key aspects is now needed going forward,' Robinson added. 'The team have shown they are capable of playing some fantastic, effective football and performing with a good degree of elite behaviour. https://i.imgur.com/6I1Ti3C.jpg
Malik Mothersille scored a brace in our last game 'Whether this has been done on a consistent basis is arguable and I think there is room for improvement. We have only lost one in nine games and are unbeaten in seven, but we aren't top of the PL2 league. We currently leave points out there and the players know this needs to change.' Our development squad will have a chance to put into the practice the words of their manager this weekend as they take on Blackburn Rovers in a lunchtime kick-off at Kingsmeadow on Saturday 22 October.
