4 ailing players sit it out By Marlen Garcia Tribune staff reporter October 11, 2005, 10:53 PM CDT The Bulls opted to play it safe with three of their slightly injured players and rested Chris Duhon, Andres Nocioni and Darius Songaila in their exhibition opener Tuesday night against Detroit. 　　Coach Scott Skiles said all three could have played, but the team wanted to be cautious. Nocioni and Songaila participated in the team's shoot-around about 90 minutes before tip-off and Nocioni joined his teammates for warmups . 　　Nocioni, who has a left thumb strain, had his thumb and part of his hand taped. Songaila has a right shoulder strain and Duhon a right groin strain. Skiles saw the upside in Nocioni's absence. "I know what he's going to do," Skiles said. "It gives me a chance to look at some other guys." Eric Piatkowksi, who has a sore left knee, didn't make the trip. Detroit coach Flip Saunders was asked if he was sympathetic to the Bulls' plight in their contract negotiations with Eddy Curry that hinged on DNA testing for a heart condition and ended with Curry being traded to the Knicks after four seasons with the Bulls. "They knew the situation better than anybody else," he said. "They put a lot of time and effort into developing him. Eddy was developing into one of the better centers in the league. They were in a situation where they cared about him not only as a player but also as a person.
